Purelite Xstream

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) are to train their new fast jet pilots from basic trainer to intermediate fast jets using the Swiss manufactured Pilatus PC 21 turbo prop aircraft, and the pilots helmet will be the ALPHA 300 Series fighter pilot helmet manufactured by Helmet Integrated Systems Ltd (HISL). Flight safety equipment maintenance personnel have completed a fitting and servicing course for the ALPHA helmet at HISL’s factory in the UK.

The Pilatus PC 21 provides the optimum in flying training for fighter jet pilots reaching the fast jet conversion stage, and in performance terms replicates many of the flight characteristics of the F16 fighter operated by the RSAF.

F16 manufacturer Lockeed Martin were awarded a twenty year contract to support the flying training course and will provide aircraft, maintenance, simulators and simulator instructors to the RSAF’s 130 Squadron based at RAAF Pearce in Western Australia.

The ALPHA 300 Series jet fighter helmet, available in five sizes and a choice of colours, is a lightweight helmet with excellent comfort and protection levels, which exceed those of other international manufacturers. The key requirements of any pilot helmet are that they should provide the best impact protection and helmet retention in an ejection emergency.

The ALPHA 300 Series helmets combination of lightweight and a very strong epoxy resin, aramid carbon fibre shell construction offers high levels of protection and wearer comfort in a range of multi-function fast jet operations.

In common with the manufacturer’s proven, modular-based ALPHA configuration, the basic helmet can be adapted to meet different operational requirements using a wide of equipment options. These include single or double visors with clear or tinted screens, active noise reduction and headset impedances.

The ALPHA range of aircrew helmets will be displayed at the Farnborough International Airshow 14th -20th July 2008 Hall 2 Stand 23
