Chilean Navy take the ECHO on board

ER1(3)

Following the purchase by the Chilean Navy of three ex UK Royal Navy Type 23 frigates, HISL have supplied and updated the Cromwell ECHO submarine fire helmets with built in radio communications, which were standard equipment on these RN ‘Duke’class frigates.

Each ship has twenty of the fire helmets with comms and associated equipment enabling four fire and repair party teams and forward damage control officers to operate and communicate in the difficult high noise, heat and confined space conditions that apply in the event of a fire or emergency.

The last ship to be commissioned into the Chilean Navy is the ‘’Almirante Condell’’ and the picture shows Bob Gaskell of HISL, at the hand over of the Cromwell ECHO units to the ship’s fire and damage control teams, led by Lt Edwin Trench Mewes, following the completion of the FOST sea trials, and return to the UK Portsmouth Naval Base.
